KBA SCHOLARSHIP

The Kaitaia Business Association

Kaitaia Business Association (KBA) is a registered Incorporated Society made up of local businesses. It’s a ‘not for profit’ volunteer group which benefits local businesses and the wider community by driving projects.

Funding Intentions

The Kaitaia Business Association has long supported schools in their endeavour to further tertiary education for students. While we continue to encourage higher education, our intention is to support local businesses who employ community members through apprenticeships or training. These businesses contribute to the economy of Kaitaia and are training the next generation of possible future business owners and/or tradespeople.

Criteria for the Apprenticeship/Trainee Scholarship

The KBA apprenticeship/ trainee scholarship is to provide annual funding for businesses within the KBA Business Improvement District (BID)* and Associated Members that have hired an apprentice or trainee.

This funding is to go towards the costs related to the training and/or tools required for the success of the apprentice/trainee within the business.

All applications are assessed by the Kaitaia Business Association Executive Committee who meet at the end of every month.

Evaluating proposed applications

The applications are evaluated against the selection criteria outlined below:

  • The business applying for the scholarship is a member of the KBA BID or an Associated Member within the financial year for which the application is made.
  • The training and/or tools can be justified for the support of the apprentice/trainee.
  • This scholarship is for up to $1200.
  • The applicant is not guaranteed ongoing financial support from the Kaitaia Business Association.

*Local businesses within the BID area (or those outside the area who choose to join via an Associated Membership) contribute an amount of money each year through a proportional system which is determined by BID regulations via their rateable property value. The Far North District Council includes the levy with their regular rates notices and then forwards quarterly instalments of the BID portion to the Kaitaia Business Association. The council provides this service free of charge.

– KBA Scholarship closes 31st October 2024
